Minnesota Hockey,
There has been a tremendous outpouring of support from the hockey community and others for the tragically injured Jack Jablonski and his family. We encourage your continued support as Jack and his family go down the long road of recovery. Additionally, we'd ask you to keep the other players and coaches involved in this incident in your thoughts and prayers as well.
Minnesota Hockey and USA hockey with the support of coaches, officials and association leaders have worked hard at providing a safe environment for players. There are number of programs and resources that have been put in place and are available, such as the Hockey Education Program (HEP), Heads-Up Don't Duck, progressive body contact checking training program, the STOP patch and concussion education and protocol. Minnesota Hockey is committed to add and improve programs to ensure players safety in the future. However, this incident reminds us all to continue reinforcing these efforts to eliminate dangerous and illegal hits and to teach correct body contact and checking techniques.
With that in mind, we make the following recommendations:
Coaches:
· Before every game and practice remind your hockey players of the dangers of checking from behind and to eliminate any such hits.
· During practices work with your players on correct body contact and checking techniques as laid out in the progressive body contact checking curriculum. http://www.minnesotahockey.org/page/show/84456-player-and-coaching-development
· Review with your players the principles of the Heads-Up Don't Duck program. http://www.usahockey.com/Template_Usahockey.aspx?NAV=ET_02&id=292550
· Support the official’s calls.
Officials:
· Review the points of emphasis on body contact/checking for the 2011-12 season.
· Before the game, talk with the coaches regarding the points of emphasis and hits from behind.
· When there is a check from behind do not hesitate to make the call.
Hockey Players
· Commit yourself to playing hockey the right way and safely.
· Eliminate checking from behind. If you see the STOP patch pull up and avoid hitting the other player.
Thank you,
Dave Margenau
President, Minnesota Hockey
Please forward all Dist 4 game results by Wednesday of the following week. Email all results to Todd Frankenhoff at tfranken@madjac.net.
Send only scores, via email, (by winning team). Hang on to your score sheets, if at the end of the year we have discrepancies, we can then verify.
We do not keep any stats per se (i.e. goals, assists).
Keep in mind that games changed after 11/15 (other than illness and weather), cost $100. The game change form is on the website. Please fill this out and send to Mark Jacobs.
If there is a change in the game time for the same day just email those changes to Todd and the other team.
